The challenge
The bank's accounting team depended on manual processes to generate auxiliary reports: data extraction from on-premise systems, Excel-based transformations, and cross-validations that consumed days of team effort. The lack of automation increased the risk of human error, made it difficult to meet regulatory deadlines, and limited the team's ability to respond quickly to internal and external audit requirements. Data was fragmented across multiple sources without a centralized repository or a reliable integration process.
The solution
We implemented a data processing and integration platform on AWS that automates the complete cycle from extraction to report generation. AWS Glue orchestrates ETL jobs that connect to on-premise sources through secure JDBC connectors, normalize data, and load it into a data lake on Amazon S3. Business transformations are executed in Glue with Python/PySpark and results are stored in Glue Data Catalog catalogs, queryable via Amazon Athena. Final reports are automatically distributed in the formats required by the accounting team, with data quality validations built into the pipeline.
